Business process outsourcing companies are growing rapidly in India. The principle behind BPO companies is based on the theory given by C K Pralad, “A business enterprise must always concentrate on its trends and outsource its weaknesses to those who specialize in them.” The concept of BPOs is that one must concentrate in strengthening what it basically deals in and transfer rest of the tasks to other units who are proficient in managing them.
With the emergence of multi-national companies and globalized financial networks, the need for outsourcing is on a tremendous increase. Companies all over the world are giving BPO jobs in India mainly to outsource their operations primarily because of two reasons. 1. Availability of cheap skilled English speaking graduates and 2. Lack of other adequate job opportunities. The Indian workforce if efficient, punctual, skilled, easily recruits able, flexible, and ready to work in stressful environments too. The tri-pillared policy of liberalization, privatization, globalization adopted by the Indian government has helped in tapping a lot of such job opportunities. The academic requirements for a BPO job may range from basic matriculation to post-graduations. Starting from the basic as a call center agent one may progress to a team leader then process manager. One may get into training, quality management, or other sectors like network management, communication management, security management, etc, to conclude with, one may say that a career in a BPO is extremely lucrative provided that one has redoubtable command over language, ability to work under challenging conditions, analytical skills, basic computing skills, and the ones who believe in striving hard to achieve excellence in their career.
